Trillium Institute participated for a second time at Calvin College’s lifelong learning program, known as Calvin Academy for Lifelong Learning (CALL). The four-part series was entitled “Re-Designing the Ultimate Journey,” with sessions on the how medicine is changing, how to navigate the healthcare system, re-defining hope in the face of adversity, and advance care planning. The faculty included Dr. John Mulder, Ken Hekman, and Carol Robinson.

Trillium Institute faculty including Ken Hekman, John Mulder, MD, Marenta Klinger and Carol Robinson led a four-part series on Mindful Aging for 80 participants at the Hope Academy for Senior Professionals, a lifelong learning program of Hope College in Holland, MI. Topics included Advance Care Planning, Living Well, Dying Well, and Grieving Well. The feedback was so affirming that we have been invited back for the 2016 season.
April, 2015 –
Ken Hekman and John Mulder, MD presented a two-part course for the adult education offerings at Ferrysburg Community Church, Ferrysburg, MI. The course featured lessons learned about dying well and grieving well.
January, 2015 –
Ken Hekman presented a two-hour course on Living Well, Even in the Face of Adversity to 70 engaging participants at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Aquinas College.
Dr. Mulder gave 46 lectures and 8 presentations to audiences of medical students, residents and fellows, nursing students, other college classes, ethics committees, nurses, churches, hospice staff, physicians and community groups, impacting over 2,000 listeners with information and perspectives about end of life care.
Trillium Institute leaders were interviewed by radio, television and print media reporters at least ten times, generating news stories throughout West Michigan.
October, 2014 –
Dr. Mulder was a keynote presenter at the Philippines Palliative Conference in Manila, Philippines. He was also asked to advise local policy-makers about legislation to promote the development of credentials for medical professionals in palliative care.

Topics included Advance Care Planning, Living Well, Dying Well, and Grieving Well. 100% of participants surveyed indicated they found the series helpful and were likely to recommend this course to others.

Carol Robinson from Making Choices Michigan made a presentation to 90 seniors at the Grand Forum, a lifelong learning program of Grand Valley State University. Her presentation on Advance Care Planning was sponsored by Trillium Institute.
